The Underlying Reasons That May Be Causing Your Arm Pain

rsz armpainDo you experience nagging arm pain that doesn’t seem to go away? You may be suffering from cervical radiculopathy!

Also known as a “pinched nerve”, cervical radiculopathy is a condition caused by compressed or irritated nerves. It normally begins in the neck and spreads downwards to your shoulder, arm, and hand. The result is pinching pain, muscle weakness, and numbness in the affected areas.

Arm Pain Treatment in Eldorado: What Causes Cervical Radiculopathy?

In younger people, cervical radiculopathy often occurs due to a herniated disc on the spinal column brought by a sudden injury. It can also be a result of natural wear and tear of the spine that occurs as you age.

Let’s take a deeper look at how this condition causes arm pain:

Degenerative Changes

This simply refers to the osteoarthritis of the spine – a common form of arthritis that affects more than 10% of the adult population. The condition popularly occurs in the lower back and neck area.

As you age, the spinal discs that provide cushioning between the vertebrae dry out and shrink, narrowing the space between the vertebrae. Your spine becomes stiff and less flexible and this leads to the development of bone spurs which tend to pinch adjacent nerves, causing pain, numbness, and weakness in the arms.

Herniated Discs

This occurs when the soft center of a disc pushes a crack in the exterior spinal casing. Often, herniated discs compress the adjacent nerves, resulting in pain, weakness, and numbness in the arms or legs. Other times, the condition may not have any symptoms.

Arm Pain Relief with Chiropractic Care

Arm pain treatment with chiropractic care involves locating the source of the pain and then correcting the problem by relaxing the muscles, repositioning the bones, and relieving pressure on the affected nerves.

Chiropractic therapy is an effective way of treating arm pain and reversing the symptoms of cervical radiculopathy. It’s a drug-free, non-invasive treatment, and it offers quick results.
